Hope it will be a cracking derby

YOUNG Hull FC and Hull KR fans have been designing derby day Easter eggs as part of a competition run by the Black and Whites.

More than 500 pupils from schools in Hull and the East Riding have entered the competition in which the winner will have their design made into a chocolate egg.

Classmates of the winner will also be treated to a behind the scenes tour of the KC Stadium before the cross-city clash next Friday.

Jon Flatman, community director at Hull FC said: "One of the big themes in schools at the moment is around Easter and another prevalent thing in the city is the derby so we thought 'lets have an Easter Egg design competition' to bring it to life.

"We asked some schools in Hull and the East Riding to have pupils encapsulate the derby in an image.

The winning entry will be turned into an egg."

Hull FC captain Craig Fitzgibbon will have the task of picking the winner.

"We have had some amazing entries," says Mr Flatman.

"What has come back is great. "Some of them have been themed around the river and the east and west divide, some have the red and white and black and white themes and others have used players.

"There is a lot of variety. It will be hard to pick a winner."

Pupils at Thanet Primary School, in Tedworth Road, east Hull, were treated to a coaching session from Hull FC staff before getting to work on their designs.

Milica Saleh, year six class teacher said: "They really enjoyed it.

"Quite a few of the children merged the two teams together in their design. We are also doing a topic on Hull and some of them thought to link it to other things like the Humber Bridge.

"It's great for them to get involved in this before the derby because it is something local and it is something they all know."

Two branded derby cars will also be on view around the city in the run up to the game.

One will be stuffed with rugby balls and fans will have the opportunity to win by guessing the number of balls in the car.
