STAFF at The Deep are celebrating after receiving another national award.
The Hull submarium was given a gold award at the prestigious Enjoy England Awards For Excellence 2011 at a ceremony in London on Friday night.
The Access For All Tourism Award for the North Of England is in recognition of the tourist attraction's work in providing access for the disabled and those with hearing or sight problems.
Chief executive Colin Brown said: "Making ourselves available to people with disabilities is about customer care, which makes good business sense.
"By concentrating on the little things that make life easier for people, we make ourselves a more attractive and enjoyable place for all to visit.
"We think the judges were particularly impressed with our 'quiet days', the wide range of mobility aids available and our multi-sensory approach. Audio is turned down to make the attraction more accessible to those with hearing impairments who find some of the sounds distracting.
"Some of our presentations are signed in British Sign Language."
Meanwhile, The Deep has also opened its new Living Rivers exhibition. It showcases some of the greatest river systems of the world, including the Rio Grande, the Amazon and the Mekong.
The display also includes the first "fog screen" to be installed in the UK, providing a unique walk-through experience that uses ultrasound to create a moving image on a curtain of mist.
The exhibit is brought to life by carefully chosen exotic species, including red-bellied piranha, fishing spiders, a colony of leaf- cutter ants and an emerald tree boa.
The Deep curator Katy Duke said: "It's been a fascinating departure for us to look into the biology of exotic freshwater animals.
"We have chosen examples from each river system and their surrounding habitat to show the intricacies of life in these fragile habitats and how closely they affect one another.
"The star of our new collection is the emerald tree boa from the Amazon, so named for its incredible green colour."
