Academy teaching standards praised by inspectors

TEACHING standards at a city academy have been praised by inspectors.

Ofsted inspectors rated the teaching in Nottingham Academy's primary years as outstanding following a monitoring visit last month.

The visit was to check progress at the academy since its conversion following the amalgamation of three schools.

In his report, inspector Andrew Cook said: "Almost all of the teaching observed in the primary phase was outstanding.

"Teachers had high expectations and skillfully adapted their teaching throughout the lesson to meet the needs of all pupils."

Teaching standards in the secondary phase were rated as good or better.

Mr Cook was also impressed with the behaviour of students in the primary section and at the Greenwood Road site in Sneinton.

He added: "They were motivated and engaged in their work cooperatively.

"Pupils had pride in their work and wanted to do well."

Speaking about the Ransom Road site in St Ann's, he added: "In lessons, students were always polite and willing to follow the teacher's instructions.

"Outside and in the dining hall, students' behaviour was outstanding and there was a real sense of calm and purpose around the site."
