Plans to scale back Bingham street lighting

PEOPLE in Bingham can find out how they would be affected by plans to cut back on street lighting in the town.

Notts County Council has issued details of the plans which would mean the majority of lights would be turned off between midnight and 5.30am, with some on main roads unchanged.

The proposals are being sent to Bingham Town Council, Rushcliffe Borough Council and the emergency services for their comments. They can be viewed online at www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk.

Residents have until April 11 to give comments and work is set to start a few weeks later.

Councillor Richard Jackson, cabinet member for transport and highways, said: "People in Bingham now have the chance to tell us whether there are reasons why specific lights should be excluded, and we will continue to light crime and accident black spots and monitor the project carefully."

The council believes the scheme will eventually save 1 million a year across the county.
