In Brief

EAST RIDING: An energy company whose plans to build a wind farm in Spalding were rejected has made an appeal to be heard in summer.

Volkswind proposed to build a seven-turbine farm near Ivy House Farm in Spaldington last year.

But councillors threw out the plans after uproar from villagers who vowed to fight on should the company appeal.

A public inquiry is now set for May 24.

Plans and further details about the appeal can be seen at East Riding Council's service centres in Beverley and Howden.

HULL: Drivers have been warned of a week of disruption on the A63 between Daltry Street flyover and Garrison Road.

Sections of the city's arterial route will be resurfaced and relined, forcing lane closures on the eastbound carriageway.

Repairs by the Highways Agency will start on Thursday taking place between 8pm and 6am.

Drivers should follow diversion signs.

CITY CENTRE: A mailing and recycling firm which trains young people has received a cash boost.

Enviromail, a social enterprise based in Beverley Road, is one of organisations to benefit from up to 10,000 of Hull and East Yorkshire Community Foundation grants.

The company, which deals in bulk mailing, cardboard recycling and archiving, trains unemployed youngsters in the city.

EAST RIDING: Families and businesses in the region's Internet "not-spots" can turn into Wi-fi hotspots with a European fast broadband fund.

Under a scheme overseen by Yorkshire Forward, villages without broadband or those with a poor signal can have up to 60 per cent of installation bills footed.

For eligibility criteria, call Yorkshire Forward on 0113 394 9818 or email mark.firth@yorkshire-forward.com
