A FAMILY nursery has become the latest business to make a pledge in the Post's 100 in 100 apprentice campaign.
Their young recruit will become a role model to the 90 children who attend the sessions.
Leo's Nursery, Arnold, is already committed to offering quality apprenticeships which provide young people with a qualification and experience in childcare.
The new apprentice will join 30 staff in the nursery and have the chance to get involved with after-school clubs.
Owner of Leo's Nursery, Ged Tinley, 45, from Nuthall, said the role would develop key skills for working with children of all ages.
"It's a childcare apprenticeship so they will be learning about all aspects of childcare from looking after young babies up to children of pre-school age," he said.
"They will learn about the care of children, their various development stages and how to support and stimulate them.
''We also run a number of after-school clubs so they will get the opportunity to work with older children," he added.
Leo's Nursery, which recently expanded due to high demand, was established more than 20 years ago.
Since it opened it has already taken on a number of apprentices.
Mr Tinley said he decided to join in the Post's campaign to find 100 apprentices in 100 days because he had found from experience that apprenticeships were the best way of recruiting staff.
"We've always had apprentices and we were in a position where we were looking for another one," he said.
"We find it's the best way of recruiting staff because if they come to us on an apprenticeship and perform well with their qualification then it's far more effective than going through the interview process with people that we've never come across before.
"If you give young people the chance then it gives them the chance to learn, get a qualification and spend time with us.
''If a job does become available, we know that they know the work, they know the job and they know the children,'' he said. ''It really is a win-win situation."
